On not even realising she was a minority

In truth when I first started, I did not realise there was male dominance. I was not intimidated by my being a female and focused on developing my skills behind the camera. What I lacked in terms of technical knowledge, I made up in persistence.

I was very focused on what I wanted and knew what I liked. This has shaped my work and my perspective as a photographer today. I have no regrets as long as I continue to excel in the areas I choose to photograph and will continue to dive into unchartered territories.

On other women

My personal belief is to start off with a hobby or acquire a skill and to be the best that I can be at it. Failure is not an option for me. More women should take up photography as a hobby. With self-belief and commitment, they can be great photographers.
